Susan Murphy

Composer Lyicist/Instrumentalist Susan Murphy hails from the NYC music scene. An award winning multi genre writer, she was classically trained at the Mannes College of Music. In 1978 her electronic composition "Dots" won her the ASCAP young composers award.
Her true calling was composing for musical theatre and cabaret. The Floating Hospital theatre (Actors Equity Association) was created based on her children's original compositions. The Floating Hospital Theatre reached an audience of well over 500,000. In addition to performances on the boat, they too toured nationally, including numerous performances at Lincoln Center, Central Park, NYC museums, and Disney Land.
Her works for Interborough Repertory Theatre and Pegasus Productions toured national theatres. Her writings also included works for Scholastic Magazine.
In 1988 she composed the score for The Adventures of Mr. Enzyme- Award winning children's film for children afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis. (John Muir Film Award)- Mercury Productions.
Her cabaret group Class Act toured nationally with the USO as well as appearing in NYC piano bars.
By the mid '80's she was also playing in Celtic/Folk/and Americana bands, including The Clan and Beltaine (Celtic), Answer the Muse (indie folk) and currently Autumn Sun (original Americana) and Six Mile Craic (Celtic trad).
Her voice was also heard on the radio, including WBAI's "Once Upon the Air" (children's programming) and the NPR/PBS Emmy nominated Teen Talk Radio and Teen Talk TV (WNYE in NYC- programming by and for at-risk youth).
